The house that Richard built…

Posted on

**Plan for today ~ Nicola and I planned to drive to Wolferton Train station on the Royal Sandringham estate and have a quick location scout outside in preparation for our much anticipated “Jubilee Vintage Tea Party” Photoshoot.**

….By the time I got to Nicola’s house, there was already an inch of water on the roads. It was chucking it down. Being a gentleman, I waited in the car, as she got soaked running from her house. We both thought the same thing… “What if it’s like this on the day of the shoot?”

We pulled up outside the Station. The weather was getting worse… So we opened our Brollies… counted to 3 and legged it towards the open door of Richard’s workshop. Trisha from Ornate Occasions was already there, waving us in. We said a cheery Hello to Richard, who was waiting inside… After introducing Nicola to Trisha for the first time, we were just about to trudge outside again under the shelter of our brollies, when Richard (Lovely, Lovely, Lovely man that he is) said,

“So, would you like to see INSIDE the house?”

Me & Nicola looked at each other with the BIGGEST grins on our faces and shouted “YESSSS PLEASE!!!” and ran towards the Station house door.

Once inside, Nicola and I were like Kids in a Candy Store. Richard has spent many years and countless hours, painstakingly restoring the Train station back to its former glory. The Queen’s Room was Immaculate; it was like stepping back in time. The wood panelled walls, gorgeous drapes and beautifully upholstered furniture really brought the room to life.

Tucked in amongst the Victorian artefacts and royal memorabilia are picture frames of Richard’s family. Records of his own family history lovingly collected and treasured over the years, these images have now become interspersed within the soul of the house and are now a large part of the Stations history.
